When Russell started in 2012 his aim was to build a bicycle business that would provide assistance and maintenance to all types of people riding bikes, and to keep them moving day in day out. Part of the plan was to be located in places where people riding bikes would come, rather than being located in places where you would need to go out of your way to get to, hence the workshop at Sheffield Railway Station. Another aspect was to make bicycle repairs affordable. Many people see riding a bike as being ‘Free’ - it isn’t. There is a cost to maintaining a bike even if you’ve been given it for free from someone. This is an important aspect of your everyday cycling, as a poorly maintained bike could cause you to have an accident and hurt yourself, and others. So Russell wanted to create a way that you could spread the cost of maintenance, voila, Russell’s Bicycle Club is born.
As the cost of living crisis begins to bite this winter it could be that you’ll start riding your bicycle more frequently, in particular for those shorter journeys, but possibly for longer ones too. So keeping your bicycle running and in tiptop condition will mean it will need maintenance, making sure those brake pads are ok, the tyres aren’t worn out and the chain and bearings are all greased and oiled correctly.
Russell’s Bicycle Club aims to spread the cost of keeping your bicycle running by offering a yearly subscription paid in 11 monthly payments. So from only £12 per calendar month your bicycle will benefit from 2 services per year and lots of other tweaks and adjustments throughout the year, all free of labour, meaning that you’ll only pay for the parts when you bring it in for repair. And with two locations available to bring your bicycle to us, and a third on its way, you have flexibility to get your bike maintained.
This is a commonsense sustainable approach to cycling. Instead of ‘local projects’ that appear and disappear, this is about making cycling easy and sustainable while offering you more than just a one off freebie.
To join our Club all you need to do is sign up here and bring your bike into one of our shops for a free safety check.
