What's In The Shop 5 - Simplicity Is Key

Russell CuttsComment

he Pine Mountain is a retro-inspired modern mountain bike designed for riders who want something simple. In a world where tech fueled full suspension rigs dominate the market, the Pine Mountain brings something a little different to the table and salutes the early days of Marin's history in mountain biking.

What's In The Shop 4 - Time for Touring

Russell CuttsComment

I think the best way to imagine the Four Corners is in as a loyal pooch. Whether you're commuting, touring, adventuring, bikepacking, or just looking for something fun, the Four Corners is up for it; sat waiting patiently at the door for you with bottles filled and panniers attached (really stretching this metaphor). It's up for anything you can throw at it and, like you, will always be itching to come back for more.

Four Corners

Four Corners

Was: £850 - Now: £650!

We have 2 Marin Four Corners in stock in both Medium and Large frames. Both bikes are in Green and Orange.

What Marin say:

"The Four Corners is perfectly suited to today's commute and tomorrow's touring adventure. The 4130 butted chromoly steel frame and fork are designed to handle fully loaded touring, with three bottle mounts, rack and fender eyelets, lowrider fork mounts, generous tire clearance and mechanical disc brakes to bring it all to a stop. The bars are set high for all-day comfort and heads-up visibility in traffic, and a Shimano 27-speed drivetrain for long-term durability and a 500% gear range to tackle any hill, with any load. Carry a laptop and change of clothes during the week, a tent and camp stove come Saturday morning. Get to work, and get out of town."

What the critics say:

"For the city dweller, it fills the niche for everyday commuting needs, and for the adventure seeker, the large tire clearance and touring capability encourages exploring on gravel and dirt. As cyclists, what tales would we have to share if everything went as planned? The Marin Four Corners is ready for a change of route and a story to tell."

What's In The Shop 3 - Capable Commuter

Russell CuttsComment

Next up we have the Marin Lombard. Originally one of the staff favourites back in 2016, the Lombard is what you get if you cross a cyclocross bike and a dedicated tourer/commuter. This bike is the best option for the person who wants to do it all in all weathers. Or even just someone who wants as much style and versatility as possible.

Birthed from cyclocross and touring parents, the Lombard can tackle the weekly commute as well as stretch its legs to venture out on weekend road or gravel adventures. A Shimano Sora triple 27-speed drivetrain with wide-range gearing help reduce the strain of hills while mixed-tread Schwalbe Delta Cruiser tires provide secure handling both on road and off. What's In The Shop 2 - Gravel Grinding

Russell Cutts1 Comment

The second bike we're featuring is the the Marin Gestalt 2. This is a bike that's designed to carry on rolling when those smooth tarmac roads turn into loose, uneven back country lanes. As well as a ride for gravel, the Gestalt 2 is just as at home on your daily commute or as a tough winter steed for when the weather gets cold and wet. It's tough, fast, and it looks good. The whole package.

Gestalt 2

Gestalt 2

Was: £1000 - Now: £850! - Save 15%

We have 2 Marin Gestalt 2's in stock in both 54cm and 56cm frames.

What Marin say:

"Looking to get Beyond Road? The Gestalt 2 can take you there, whether the road is paved or not. Our lightweight, butted aluminum Series 3 frame is matched with a lightweight, vibration-damping carbon-bladed fork. Drivetrain duties are handled by a dependable SRAM 1x10 drivetrain with a wide-range 11-42t cassette. Tektro mechanical disc brakes provide confidence-inspiring stopping power, while Schwable's sublime G-ONE folding bead, 30c tires roll smoothly on road and provide a surprising amount of grip on dirt. Integrated rack and fender mounts also help to make the Gestalt 2 an excellent choice for commuting or light touring."

What the critics say:

"The Marin Gestalt 2 is an absolute blast to ride off-road. That extra-low gear means previously unrideable slopes can be tackled with ease."

"The Marin Gestalt 2 is a clever bike with a lot of flexibility for on and off road riding. It delivers the benefits of single ring shifting without the expense."

What's In The Shop?

Russell CuttsComment

As it will soon be time for us to make room for next year's bicycles, we thought we would write a few posts letting you guys know what bikes we currently have in our shops. Grab a deal while you can!

First up is the Marin Nail Trail 6. An aggressive, all-rounder hardtail that's just as fun on technical trails as it is on all day epics.

Nail Trail 6 29er 2017

Nail Trail 6 29er 2017

Was: £1000 - Now: £900! - Save 10%

We have 1 Marin Nail Trail 6 29er left in stock in a 19" frame.

What Marin say:

"Longer, lower, slacker is the mantra for the updated Nail Trail line this year. The advanced Series 3 double butted aluminum frame features internal cable routing and a 142x12mm rear thru-axle, along with modern trail-focused geometry. Drivetrain duties are handled by a wide-range SRAM NX 1x11 system, while the wheelset features tubeless-ready rims with 29mm inner width mated to Schwalbe performance tires. A RockShox Recon Silver fork smooths out the ride while Shimano hydraulic disc brakes help keep speed in check."

What the critics say:

"The Marin Nail Trail 6 is has a predictable and fun ride, which is backed up by a smart component selection that will last well.

As far as we’re concerned, the measure of a great bike is how much you end up wanting to ride it – and how little you notice the actual bike when out. The Marin Nail Trail 6 fits right in there – whilst it looks great when lent up against a tree, you soon forget about it when pointed down hill.

It inspires you to get out and give anything a whirl , and is a mountain bike perfect for upgrading as you progress with the bike."

Grab A Gestalt

Russell CuttsComment

The Gestalt 2 has been raved about by many a magazine and website. Next seasons model hasn't changed much except for a paint job and a price rise. You though can grab this year's model at a bargain price here at Russell's Bicycle Shed.
