What to do about the punctures

AdviceRussell CuttsComment

If you ride a bicycle its one of the first pieces of maintenance you learn, and by far its going to help you more than any other in the long term; how to fix a puncture. Regardless of the type of bike you ride if you have pneumatic tyres you'll get punctures there's not much you can do about it but there are things you can do to reduce the number of punctures you get.

Where will you go....

Travelling by bicycle can be exciting, the daily commute can be transformed into a mini adventure; you can take your bicycle to places you wouldn't normally see in the car and certainly not on the bus. Bicycles have the power to transform your day from the regular and mundane into the exciting and varied.

In Sheffield there are lots of opportunities to take the scenic route to work or just discover some new roads, its great if you are house hunting! If you don't believe me why not try it.

When you take the alternative route you find things that maybe you had heard about but never bothered to look for when you were in the car. Cycling gives you the opportunity to discover these places. There are lots of nooks and crannies like this in Sheffield, you can discover them all by bicycle.

Kelham Island and Neepsend is just one of those places. We all know it for the excellent beers and pubs it has but do you know what else you can find down there. Well you'll find art galleries and museums, there are huge open spaces with rabbits aplenty and herons fishing on the river, there is a kayaking club and now there are cafes and restaurants with award winning food and drink. Yellow Arch Studios makes music to your ears and you can listen to new bands practice in empty spaces all around. If you follow some of the streets to their supposed end you'll find narrow alleyways that take you somewhere new. The history of the area is frozen in bricks and mortar all around you while new developments grow up out of the ground. Take the car and you'll barely experience anything, do it on a bike and you'll be able to take in the whole vista.

Cycling is your ticket to a new experience and a new adventure, why not give it a try: click here.

Amphifest 2015

Russell CuttsComment

Every year the great people at Friends of Sheaf Valley Park get together and organise an awesome event. We've been having a stall there for the last 2 years and we love it. Amphifest this year looks like it will be an even bigger and better event than the last few years.

There'll be music, dancing, food and even a coconut shy. We'll be there offering help and advice and doing some on the spot repairs.

The fun begins at Noon on Saturday 5th September behind the Railway Station!

British Cycling Elite Circuit Series:
Sheffield Hallam Grand Prix

To give you a taster of what you can expect tonight, here are just a few photographs from a previous event.

Top three spectator tips:

  1. Try standing on the apex of a bend (for a short while): you get a real sense of speed.
  2. Lots to see; so, walk around the circuit clockwise: you will always be facing the action.
  3. Taking photos?  Get low and high, but be very careful, don't put yourself or the riders in danger - they will be moving at quite-a-lick.

Fingers crossed the weather will be fine tonight and it will be wheel to wheel action.

CliffHanger 2015 Day 2 -

Advice, ShopRussell CuttsComment

What a great weekend at Cliffhanger 2015.

Being a small independent bike shop we really value your feedback.

If you were one of the many people who spoke to us over the weekend: first, thank you for saying hello and if you have had any subsequent questions, thoughts or ideas, please get in touch (via email, phone or comment below). We really want to hear from you.

We also produced a new brochure for the event, if you didn't pick one up or you were not at Millhouses Park this weekend, we still have a few copies in our shop at the Station or you can download a PDF version here: Love Commuting? You might if you ride.

As you might have read in our last blog post we used Cliffhanger to launch our new Commuter Bike Trial. We think, right now, really is the best time to give cycling to work a go:

This week the schools in Sheffield break-up for their summer holidays; so, generally for the next six weeks the traffic gets lighter - which is great. For your inspiration: The Tour de France is in full swing with live coverage and highlights on ITV4 and on July 22, 2015, Sheffield hosts the 2015 Elite City Center Cycling at the Sheffield Grand Prix.

Not forgetting, our handpicked range of new 2015 Marin and Tern bikes in the shop and a fleet of Hire Bikes all ready for you to try.

We are here to help, support and encourage you to get on your bike. The services we offer:

Get in touch; let us help you get fitter, travel greener and start enjoying your commute.

Love Commuting? You might if you ride.

We've also had some good feedback. Lots of people are keen to try cycling to work this summer and many have shown an interest in our new 5-Day Commuter Trial which we officially launched this weekend:

Hire a commuter bike from us for 5 days for only £45 - if you love the experience (and we are pretty sure you will) If you then buy a new bike from us, we will give you your hire fee back.

Also, pick up one of our flyers from the CliffHanger Festival; we'll be pleased to offer you a special 10%  discount of any new bike in our shop.

Marin Lombard

Tern Link D8

The two most popular bikes at the show have been the Marin Lombard and Tern Link D8 folding bike.

Both these bikes have been attracting the crowds and they have both been taken on several test rides around Millhouses Park.

Sunday is set to be another good day - we hope to see you here, please pop-by and say hello.
